Top managers' career variety and time to the top

The present paper brings novel insights to career literature, in particular the field of top managers' careers: first, by relying on boundaryless approach, we investigate how those managers who reach differ terms variety before being appointed board. Second, combining approach with human capital theory, analyze association between and time it takes them a board level position. For our empirical study, use sample from German DAX-30 firms. Our results reveal four distinct clusters managers, indicating that, reaching management board, no uniform path exists. We also demonstrate that more does not shorten an individual's way up upper echelons; rather, extends ascend top.
